Wedding Plates & Promises

Amy Robinson’s Story

My husband and I had been married for 18 years and I was heartbroken when most of our wedding pottery created by a local artist broke over the years. I didn’t have it in me to throw the pieces away and gave it to Rakefet. When we remodeled our kitchen, she surprised me with a beautiful mosaic incorporating shards of our wedding plates.

After going through marriage counseling and some deep work with my husband, Rakefet invited me to her art studio to create a piece of my own. I felt tentative as I’m no artist. She counseled me through letting go of my perfectionism; I am now so happy with the art that it hangs in my new bathroom. It was a therapeutic endeavor as I took the broken shards of my early marriage and recreated something of even greater beauty.

I own a yoga studio in Bellingham and we had plans to display Rakefet’s art last spring but have been closed due to the pandemic. I look forward to the day when her art will bedeck our walls. She has a warm, honest, creative gift as a therapist and artist!
